Who are ANSTI members?
ANSTI membership is open for the faculties of engineering or basic sciences of all Sub-Saharan universities and other institutions of higher education. The membership is not open for individuals.

Benefits
Staff exchange in the basic and engineering sciences Several grants are awarded to senior African academics to enable them to undertake teaching and/or research in another ANSTI institution. Candidates for the award will have to be from ANSTI member institutions and he or she will be responsible for finding the host institution for the exchange programme.
Postgraduate fellowships Postgraduate fellowships for training to MSc. and Ph.D. levels in the basic and engineering sciences are available to staff members of ANSTI institutions. The awards are only tenable in ANSTI institutions. Application forms are available from ANSTI office in Nairobi.
Book donations ANSTI often receives consignments of books from donors and these are distributed to all member institutions.
ANSTI textbook programmes ANSTI has published several textbooks in basic and engineering sciences. These books are distributed to all ANSTI members. ANSTI will also identify senior academics in member institutions who will be given contracts to prepare textbooks. African journal of science and technology Copies of the five (5) recent issues of this journal are distributed to Deans of ANSTI member institutions. Under a new arrangement, the journal will be re-launched in June 1999.
Conference grants Academic staff members of ANSTI institutions can also benefit from UNESCO grants to attend major international conferences.
Information dissemination The ANSTI secretariat also disseminates information to its members on conferences, short courses and training workshops organized by other agencies.
Training workshops Member institutions can also nominate candidates to participate in the sub-regional training workshops and short courses.
Outputs
Fellowships: Each year 10 fellowships are awarded. A total of 248 have been awarded in the last fifteen years. These graduates have returned to their institutions where they have helped to train an estimated 20,000 in the last decade.
Seminars /Workshops Databases: The following databases are complete S& T institutions Postgraduate training institutions Roster of experts in S&T Publications: Journal The African Journal of Science and Technology. The Journal is used to disseminate scientific research results in the region
Directories
1. Directory of ANSTI Grantees and fellows 1994-1995 In the 1994/97 biennium the African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI) provided grants to seventy (70) staff members of African S&T institutions. This directory contains names and addresses of the beneficiaries of six (6) different types of grants which were awarded during that period.
2. Directory of ANSTI Grantees and fellows 1994-1997 An updated version of the 1994-95 Directory.
3.Directory of ANSTI Grantees and fellows 1994-2001 An updated version of the 1994-97 Directory.
4. Directory of Female Engineers in Four African Countries. This Directory contains entries that are listed by countries. A total of four countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Ethiopia) have been covered in this first edition. Each entry has the following information: Address, telephone number, field of specialisation, education, employment record and membership of professional associations.
Directory of ANSTI Institutions. This directory contains information on degree programmes and staff members of ANSTI.
General remarks
It is quite obvious from the above list that ANSTI members enjoy benefits which is far in excess of the annual contribution they pay.
