In addition to United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is the founder of ANSTI and accommodates the ANSTI secretariat, several other international agencies involved in the support of higher education in science and engineering have been supporting ANSTI programme activities or using ANSTI network to implement their own programmes. Since 2003, The Dutch Government through The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Buitenlandse Zaken) has been supporting all the four core activities of ANSTI i.e. 1. To strengthen the staff of science and engineering training institutions, 2. To promote the use of ICT in the deliverly of science and engineering education 3. To facilitate the sharing of scientific information and strengthen the coordinating mechanism of the Network, and 4. To strengthen research activities in relevant areas of science and technology of ANSTI. The German Government through German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) assists ANSTI with its postgraduate fellowship programme. DAAD has been a long-time supporter of ANSTI fellowship activities. In 2002 the United Nations University (UNU) joined hands with ANSTI. UNU has been supporting ANSTI postgraduate fellowships programmes and staff exchange fellowships. UNU has three major priority areas for its support. These are: 1.Water resources engineering, 2.Materials science, and 3.Renewable energy resources for rural areas. ANSTI is also a founder organization of International Association for Continuing Engineering Education (IACEE) .
The Network is also a good medium for the dissemination of information on activities that could benefit African Universities.
